65 year old doctor Pierfrancesco works as a night-shift medical guard. He’s a grumpy man, full of aches and pains and is very rough with his patients. This film originated as a play in Paris. The story focuses on the one-day adventures of Bertrand Barnier played with a genius of French cinema, Louis de Funes. In the same morning he learns that his daughter is pregnant, an employee stole a large amount of money from his company, his maid is about to resign in order to marry a wealthy neighbor and his body builder is interested in marrying his daughter. The seemingly complicated story-line is full of comedy or errors and some of the most hilarious mime scenes of the French cinema.

Noc na Karlštejně

A little-known adaptation of Jaroslav Vrchlický's play is returning to the television screen, full of humorous plots, telling the story of the courage of two women in love who, because of their love, infiltrated Karlštejn Castle, where women are forbidden to enter by order of the monarch. It was created with a number of star actors eight years before the now legendary film adaptation by Zdeněk Podskalský. When it premiered in 1965, it aroused a stormy, positive and negative response. Quite naturally, because Filip's concept of this classic play, albeit in the authentic setting of Karlštejn Castle, was completely new and unconventional at the time. This adaptation of the classic original uses the melodies of popular Czech and foreign hits with lyrics by P. Kopta. For example, the ruler's arrival at the castle was announced by the melody of the popular song Jó, třešné zrály. However, professional singers mostly sing for the actors here.

Eman Vovísek drinks away his unrequited love for Liduška, who married his cousin, the factory owner Danek. Because Eman is aggressive when drunk, he is taken to a mental health facility, where he meets his uncle Hanibal. Hanibal has a breakdown after his wife Matylda broke up with him. Matylda wanted to be free so she could marry her first love, Uncle Jonathan, who is due to arrive from America. Jonathan sends a telegram saying he will stay in Paris. Such a situation does not suit Danek. He assumed that Liduška would be visiting from America and that he himself would go to his mistress in the meantime. He therefore visits Vovísek and persuades him to play the role of Jonathan.

The Inspector-General

Vlasta Burian appears in a town of Czarist Russia impersonating an Inspector General, and he is entertained lavishly by the local political-hacks and peasants seeking his favor for whatever they are advocating or need fixed. Burain is involved in a series of comical situations as he takes everything he can gets his hands on while the peasants, who must plead for the betterment of their conditions, are left on the outside-looking-in. He makes his escape just as the real Inspector General is set to appear, but those-in-need will be no better off when the real McCoy shows up then they were with Burian.
