Cool Strangers in the Night

A part of Porto’s nightlife history is revealed. In this work, the artist draws on her extensive archive of video recordings of Porto’s artistic and cultural landscape, which she has captured over the last 26 years, to focus on some of the city’s nightclubs that haven’t survived the years. A work commissioned by Batalha Centro de Cinema.

Subcontracted precarious workers at the SK Broadband, Inc. began a podcast titled ‘Workers Have Changed!’ to broadcast the story about their strike for job security. The podcast studio becomes a theater of their life as they share their stories - daily hardshipsof subcontracted labor, coping with rude customers, and their futures and dreams.

Abendland

Some things can be seen more clearly at night.. . A film poem about a continent at night, a culture on which the sun’s going down, though it’s hyper alert at the same time, an “Abendland” that, often somewhat self-obsessively, sees itself as the crown of human civilization, while its service economy is undergoing rapid growth in a thoroughly pragmatic way. Nikolaus Geyrhalter takes a look at a paradise with a quite diverse understanding of protection. Night work juxtaposed with oblivious evening digression, birth and death, questions that await answers in the semi-darkness, a Babel of languages, the routine of the daily news, and political negotiation: All this has been captured in images with a wealth of details that make us look at things in a new way. The longer you consider a word, the more distant is its return gaze: ABENDLAND.

In suburban Buenos Aires, thirty unemployed ceramics workers walk into their idle factory, roll out sleeping mats and refuse to leave. All they want is to re-start the silent machines. But this simple act - the take - has the power to turn the globalization debate on its head. Railroad of Hope consists of interviews and footage collected over three days by Ning Ying of migrant agricultural workers traveling from Sichuan in China's interior, to the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China's northwest frontier.[1] Through informal interviews aboard the cramped rail cars, Ning Ying explores the hopes and dreams of the workers, many of whom have never left their homes before.
